ECO Vehicle Systems, Inc., a comprehensive “one-stop-shop” fully integrated vehicle upfitter located in Union City, Indiana announces it has recently completed an agreement to upfit 28 new Ford Explorer Police Interceptor utility vehicles for the Muncie Sanitary District to be used by the Muncie Police Department (MPD) in Muncie, Indiana.
The upfitting of these new police patrol vehicles included installation and integration of a complete Whelan police lighting and siren package, including multi-color LED light bars and strobe lights in the grill, side and rear windows. Also installed were two-way radios, Havis laptop computer stands, Jotto prisoner containment systems, window guards, firearms security cabinets and exterior graphics. All installation was done in compliance with Ford’s Law Enforcement QVM Standards including all wire connections being soldiered and enclosed in heat shrink tubing. In addition to the high-tech police related equipment installed, these vehicles were also equipped with STAG USA Pursuit Optimize Protocol (POP) Bi-fuel Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel systems. The CNG systems carry 8.5 GGE’s (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) of CNG along with the regular gasoline in the standard Ford fuel tank. This will allow the vehicles to operate more economically due to the low cost of CNG and will extend their overall operating range by having both fuel supplies available.
Joe Winkle, the Chief of Police in Muncie, stated that he was very pleased and impressed with the excellent quality of workmanship along with the responsiveness and “can do” customer friendly attitude demonstrated by the ECO Vehicle Systems team. “Rob and the entire ECO team was easy to work with and very professional. We won’t hesitate to do more business with them. These vehicles demonstrate the highest quality workmanship and latest technology to insure the best for our officers while saving the city money at the same time”, stated Chief Winkle. “I would recommend the ECO team to any other police agencies considering vehicle upfits or conversions”, he concluded.
Chief Winkle also noted that the CNG system, made possible in cooperation with the Muncie Sanitary District, who will provide the fuel for the vehicles, will enable the Muncie Police Department to enjoy significant operational cost savings for these new vehicles while reducing their carbon emissions.
The Muncie Sanitary District, City of Muncie and the Muncie Police Department held a dedication ceremony for these 28 new police vehicles at the Greenline Compressed Natural Gas
Station on Centennial Avenue in Muncie on May 17, 2017. Nikki Grigsby, MSD District Administrator, Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler, Muncie Chief of Police Joe Winkle and ECO Vehicle Systems President Rob Lykins spoke at the event.
“It has been a pleasure working with the Muncie Sanitary District and Muncie Police Department on this exciting project”, said Rob Lykins. “We are grateful to Nikki, Joe and their respective teams for allowing us to demonstrate our “one-stop-shop” fleet upfit business model and we intend to take this model across the state and across the country. By converting these vehicle to CNG and handling the comprehensive upfit and graphics installation under one roof, we were able to save MSD and MPD significant dollars while simplifying the process for their vehicle upfits”, concluded Lykins.
